Analysis

Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry is a heartwarming comedy about two best friends. Larry single parent played by Kevin James and Chuck A man whore played by Adam Sandler pretend to be gay to reap legal benefits; it shows the lengths friends will go to help each other out. The movie shines light on many issues in life, it shows the struggles gays go through, the relationship between a father and gay son, and friendship.

The movie shows the gay struggle through comedy, it shows stereo types, and awkward situations for a straight man to be in. “Nothing worse than pretending to be something you’re not.”(I Now Pronounce). Fred Duncan another gay man in the movie says this; Chuck and Larry coming out and saying there gay inspirers him to come out too. It’s ironic, gays for so long have been afraid to be what they really are and here are two men claiming to be gay but for the wrong reasons. Being gay comes with derogatory names and discrimination people push you away just for being who you are. “Mr. Valentine you said you were a fireman, do you have two jobs? Cause my dad said you’re also a butt pirate.”(IMDB).  Being gay is hard enough feeling different from everyone else; religion saying it’s wrong to be gay the government saying it’s wrong to be gay.

Larry has two kids A boy named Eric and a daughter Torri. Eric in the movie isn’t said to be gay but is feminine and somewhat implied that he may be gay. Larry as a Father has a hard time excepting his son for the way he is. Larry’s forcing him to play baseball and watch sports but he’s only interested in the school musicals and cooking. His father keeps pushing for him to be more like he was when he was his age. As the movie goes on he starts to see and go through some of the things gay might have to deal with. He’s called a fag and queer; he’s discriminated against at work now that people thing he’s gay. Larry comes around and accepts his son for him, he helps him with his audition and by having Chuck his lover in the house it shows Eric that it’s not wrong to be gay.

Chuck and Larry are best friends they work together as firefighters. After putting out a fire they go in to check out the damage and to look around; Chuck fall off the second floor and Larry catches him. Chucks passed out and Larry throws himself on top of him as the ceiling is fall to protect him. (I Now Pronounce). These two have been though everything together the good and the bad, but they stay together through it all. Chucks describing his worst moment on the job, “ this little kid fell in a swimming pool…ii worked on him, worked on him, but…”(IMBD). Larry stayed with him all night to help him through it. Friendship is one of the best things in life and this film shows exactly how special I can be.

Gays struggles, a father and his relationship between his gay son, and friendship. All are important Topics expressed in the film. A comedy a film made to make you laugh has such a connection with real problem today, such a deep message and a warm resolution.
